Bible Study for Joy and Profit
My first impressions from your book (Bible Study for Joy and Profit) I can express by a very short sentence - Complete and exhaustive. I really enjoyed ordering my thoughts according to your book, and because I know the profit of exercise for better understanding and improvement of theory I am looking forward (and hope I will manage it) to practice those things so that I can get them more deeply "under skin". I think "Bible Study for Joy and Profit" is a book of examples and exercises of use of the rules in practice. It is also good source of material for practical examples.

"Bible Study for Joy and Profit" has changed the way I think about how to study, particularly in a group. Many times it is hard to focus BibleÊclasses to look at what a passage meant to the people of the time and then apply it to us today.ÊI have found the simple technique of asking ÒWhat does it say? What does it mean? What is my application?ÓÊhelps focus the class. After two classes of using this technique the class understood when to present their thoughts and personal study comments. The flow of the class was more logical and facilitated learning from each other and the Word of God.

"Bible Study for Joy and Profit" is an easily-read, commonsense approach to the problem many people have of knowing how to properly read and study the Bible. With no doctrinal axe to grind, the author removes the mystery surrounding the Bible andÊclearly explains the literary mechanics of correctly handling the word of God in a way thatÊisÊeasily understood. A valuable tool for any Bible student and the entire Fultondale church has been much benefited by studying it.

Brackett's book has been an encouragement to me and the Oak Ridge church. As a preacher and teacher of the gospel, this book is very refreshing with its simple and effective approach to Bible Study. While the world is trying to come up with gimmicks and man devised ministries to get people active for the Lord, Charlie simply opens up the wonders of the Bible. He provides practical and beautiful ways to encourage Bible study as the center of a Christian's life. Since our series with Brother Charlie (a weekend series based on this book), many of our brethren have been motivated into deeper and more fruitful studies of God's Word. The book has also been a catalyst behind a number of sermons encouraging more frequent and sincere "mining" of the scriptures! I would recommend the use of Bible Study for Joy and Profit to any individual or congregation, as I believe this work will encourage more and better Bible study.

This is another very exciting and helpful book by the author, Charlie Brackett. I have studied the Bible for several years but this book, "Bible Study For Joy And Profit," brought out several things which have been of help to me to have yet a richer deeper study of the Word of God. It is an easy book to read and one that is hard to put down once you start. It covers all areas of Bible Study: Are the Bible's claims believable? Why should I study and what will keep me motivated? What study aids are available, etc. It's all in there! A very enjoyable and beneficial book which I can highly recommend!

In reviewing and performing the activities in this book, I have come to understand several different concepts when studying God's Word. Charlie Brackett shows how anyone is capable of studying God's message and applying it as God intended.

Review of Bible Study for Joy and Profit by Laura Dyer
The Proverbs remind us to receive God's sayings and to treasure His commandments within us. We are reminded to seek the word as silver and to search it as for hidden treasures (Proverbs 2:1-5). Bible Study for Joy and Profit - a practical, nondenominational guide to mining Spiritual treasures is a tool just for that purpose. Charlie Brackett skillfully presents scriptures that remind us of that invaluable treasure. This study-guide is of utmost importance to the new Christian just learning how to "rightly divide the word." It is also of great benefit to re-kindle the zealousness in which a more mature Christian might revisit topics in his personal studies.
The book begins with internal and external evidence for the inspiration of the Bible. Ideas are shared on motivation and choosing a variety of study methods. Wise advice is given on how to use outside study aids such as Atlases, Encyclopedias, and Interlinear Bibles. There are also chapters on how to approach the text, look at the entire text and gather all you can through practical diagram, outlining, and many other methods.
In addition to discussing how to improve upon existing study methods a whole chapter is devoted to Biblical Authority, a much needed topic for all Christians today. This chapter is simply one of the best authority studies I have ever been able to share in individual studies. It is written so simply with clear examples and covers all the necessary topics in basic Bible hermeneutics. This chapter is a wonderful way to ground oneself in respect for God's laws, the basis to truly hiding His word in our hearts.
Another section specifically targets Bible interpretation. It helps the Bible student clear their mind of preconceived notions and come to the text with a clear mind. The text helps the honest Bible student dig deeply to determine the context, speaker, audience, circumstances, purpose and meaning of a passage.
Finally, the author spends two chapters touching on many examples of figurative language used in the Bible. These sections of the book are again crystal clear and full of excellent examples of each type of figure so that there can't be a doubt which one to identify.
At the end of each chapter, a list of discussion questions are placed which will bring to remembrance the material covered and help the reader make additional applications. This practical aspect of the book lends itself perfectly for good bible class material.
Bible Study for Joy and Profit is a very helpful tool to both young and more mature Christians. If you've never studied "How to Study" it is a perfect place to begin a deeper excavation of the Word.

Get Ready, Get Set, I Do!
Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! is the book I have been looking for, especially for those contemplating marriage, but also for some married couples. It is well written and readable, but the End Notes reveal its most valuable attribute. While there are enough references to current literary sources to indicate thorough research and full awareness of modern social trends, the vast majority are scripture references. The emphasis on God's plan of marriage and the early introduction of Bible teaching on divorce and eligibility for marriage are features I can highly recommend. I look forward to telling others of this book and giving copies to those I believe will profit from it.

Marty and I have both worked through the book and find it a good presentation of how to improve one's marriage. The composition approaches marriage from a solid biblical foundation. But beyond the theoretical, it reveals the author has himself had a healthy experience at marriage. Only those who have been happily married for many years, as have Charlie and Maria, can make a definitive statement about the subject.
Especially helpful to the readers are those sections that call for personal self-reflection. At strategic places, the book asks the reader to take personal inventory. The commitments the reader makes in response to the inventory questions will bring freshness and pleasure to his or her own marriage. In the process of working through the book, the reader will also learn the blessing of forgiveness. He or she will likewise grow in assuming individual responsibility.
I hope the book will receive wide readership, for in so doing, it will build many marriages into happier ones in the Lord.

Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! is an outstanding Bible-based resource for couples contemplating marriage as well as those who are already married. Charlie Brackett utilizes God's revealed word to explore subjects that other authors often leave untouched, such as God's pattern for roles in marriage, who has a right to marry and divorce, selfishness and its harmful effects on marriage and many other insightful topics. His thought-provoking questions that admonish compliance with the word of God are exceptional tools to prepare for a harmonious and blessed long-term relationship between a husband and wife bound by the Father.

I just finished Charlie Brackett's book "Get Ready, Get Set, I Do!" and found it full of scripture and practical advice. Charlie is obviously a great student of the Word of God, but he is also a great observer of people. His advice is a mixture of eternal truths and current insights. I especially liked his "3 S" formula for a better marriage. I saw areas in which I need improvement and believe other readers will do the same.

Excellent points on marriage!! I really enjoyed this "little" book on marriage. After fifteen years, sometimes you feel like the romance is gone, but this book tells you how to take God's word and make your marriage into something stronger and more powerful, aligned to God's idea of marriage and family. I learned a lot just by taking a few minutes to read it.
We sometimes think that if we believe that divorce is wrong, marriage for life is right, we submit to our husband, and all the other Godly principles we are taught, we have to accept our marriages even if we have problems. But this book showed me that we don't have to struggle along those 40-50 years together unhappy. We can have it all now! It's thought that children of God are to naturally have happier marriages than "regular" people, but we all struggle in our marriages and we all need reminders to put Christ into every aspect of our life, especially our relationship with our husband or wife. This book reminds us to do just that. And if we start out knowing that, it can only get better!

Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! is a valuable resource for married couples, as well as those contemplating marriage. The author has been married to the same woman for over 50 years, and has good insight in ways to stabilize marriages today in a changing society. Our young people will receive much-needed guidance in considering the seriousness of the choices that need to be made in selecting a lifelong partner. They are asked to respond to key questions that will insure an honest appraisal in areas of potential disagreement. Scriptures are used to support the concepts that are put forth by the author. I am happy to recommend this book.

Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! proves to be a thorough, thought provoking study. It has opened the eyes of five young ladies in Georgia who say they feel much more prepared for marriage than they realized possible. Thanks Charlie!

My wife and I have been married for several years and recently read "Get Ready, Get Set, I Do". We found this book to be very insightful and helpful with many practical applications that are easily applied to one's relationships. It is a good book to read whether one is preparing for marriage someday or whether one is already married. It's an easy read, flows well, and encourages people to examine themselves so as to have a great marriage relationship. I would highly recommend this book and will welcome the opportunity to read it again soon.

This book has proven to be an interesting and well-thought-out presentation of vital principles that will work in achieving or improving the marriage relationship as God intended it. As a preacher, I have long sought good material that would be helpful to young couples planning to marry. But I have also encountered many marriages that were rocky, at best. Such marriages can be salvaged, if both parties are willing, and this book will be most helpful. Any builder must have good tools, and the tools Charlie Brackett supplies will be most helpful when used with the Master Builder's Manual, the Bible.

I found the book, "Get Ready, Get Set, I Do!", very meaningful and practical and easy to read. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on biblical values as it relates to what God desires for marriage. The emphasis on the permanence of marriage was very well done. I loved the emphasis on spirituality, selflessness, and skills. I believe this would be a very good read for those contemplating marriage as well as people who are already married and wish to keep their marriage alive and well.

Charlie Brackett says it all in the opening sentence of his book: "next to your decision to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, the decision to marry the love of your life is the most important, life-changing choice you will ever make." If this decision is that important, you will want to be as prepared as possible when making it. Charlie's book is must reading for those who want to be prepared! Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! is an immensely valuable book and it is essential that this book be widely read.

Review of Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! by Jim Bill McInteer
Our brother, Charlie Brackett, renders the church of our Lord a particularly well-documented service, and wider still all society a blessing with his new book, Get Ready, Get Set, I Do! The aim of this 115 page well-printed without flaw book is designed to "Improve Your Marriage". It admirably fulfills its designed purpose.
I personally could wish every couple about to be married had a well read copy of this treatise as they come to express their life-long to keep vows. It would be a blessing to all marriages, especially if those troubled ones would take serious and applied time to absorb this book.
Its subject is as old as the Garden of Eden. Multiple authors have since written about these nuptials, but Charlie Brackett has a fresh, unique approach untouched in presentation by his positive reasoning.
There is no doubt about his source of materials: God's word. All of his approach is fundamental to his personal question, "Will you serve the Lord Jesus Christ?" (page 5).
If you answer is "yes", author Brackett will help you do it better. His appeal simply is, "Back to the Beginning" (page 10). He minces no words; marriage is for life, your contract with you wife is three ways: man, woman and God.
He spares no reasons for a husband not to know his role defining love, understanding (this is a great study of five points), honor to the wife, male leadership, and genuineness. On the wife's role he puts her in the home to stay, outlines her duties (page 50), and does a great study on subjection (pages 52-56). His chapter on "love" as defined in the Bible will open your eyes with a five prong exam from agape to sex.
He writes about divorce, its consequences and its hurts (page 18). He seeks to prove "it is not wise" (page 18). He asks all couples "is there peace or turmoil in your home?" He does his best to help bring peace.
He continues his help to married couples and those to be married with the introduction of three keys to marital bliss that he calls 3 Ss. They are Spirituality, Selflessness and Skills. But before introducing them he succinctly presents the plan of salvation in Christ. He turns to selfishness as his second "S" (beginning on page 67). He calls for testing personal care from cleanliness to overweight and appearance to in-laws.
Throughout the book, he gives you very personal test questions to answer. They cover spirituality for husband and wife (pages 47 and 57), testing love (page 65), test on selflessness (page 71), sex (page 74), rearing children (page 76), social and recreational behavior (page 78), finances (page 82), selfishness (page 83), power of positive thinking (page 93), love of truth (page 95), conflict resolution and forgiveness (page 98), and spiritual skills (page 99).
The last "S" is skills and opens with a startling chapter on how this affects marriage (pages 85-86). His presentation of nine skills and a personal testing of these abilities (pages 88-89) add a dimension to proper marriage I'd never before seen in a presentation. He'll wake up every husband and wife. His push for communication skills is most worthy.
It is a book for universal aid as he calls for a return to fundamentals. If for no other reason, you should buy the book just to take the many tests earlier cited. We are in debt to Charlie Brackett for a genuine and helpful study. Cost of the book is $10.95.
